Château La Tilleraie

Set in 3½-hectare grounds with superb views over the town of Bergerac, Château La Tilleraie is a late 18th-century manor-house which takes its name from the alley of lime trees (tilleuls) leading up to it.    As early as 1816, its vineyards were listed as producing wines ranked as “first class”.

Bruno and Dominique Fauconnier have been winning awards for the wine again, ever since they acquired the property in 1992.     Passionate about their wine, they insist on the highest quality standards, with the grapes being picked by hand in successive rounds of harvesting, to ensure that only those which are in perfect condition are brought in for pressing.

The wine is then matured in oak barrels for 12 months, during which it is filtered in accordance with the best traditional methods.   Before bottling,  the whites of no fewer than 500 eggs are used to clarify it!

While young, the wine is fruity and pleasant;   but it ages well and begins to show its best qualities if allowed to rest for a few years.

Château de Malbernat -

Domaine de Leymonie

A superb 18th-century building, the Château de Malbernat was formerly owned by a nobleman with the impressive name of the Marquis de Foucault de l’Armidalie.    Its vineyards lie within the commune of Creysse, a village on the right bank of the River Dordogne, inside the designated region for Pécharmant wines entitled to Appellation status  (A.O.C.  -   Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée).
